Now, my sister having a boyfriend might not seem like a big deal to you, but it certainly was to me. Robin was a princess, and princesses were only allowed to marry certified nobles approved by the queen. The other dragon was definitely not noble. He had dusty brown and red scales and feathers, and light green eyes. He was smiling a big, goofy looking smile, one that matched the face Robin was making.

“Okay, what is going on here?” I demanded, stepping out onto the cobbled path. Robin shirked in surprise, tumbling back into the fountain. She came up spluttering, staring at me dumbfounded.

“Blue Jay? How did you-Where did you-” she hopped out of the water, shaking the droplets off her wings. “You’re not supposed to know! No one is supposed to know! Oh my realms, does Mother know?!”

“No! But Robin, you know your not supposed to-” I cut myself off, feeling how hypocritical I sounded. After all, what was I doing? Hanging out with a very-not-noble dragon who had a crush on me. “Just explain, please.”

Robin took a few deep breaths, then turned around to face the brown dragon. He was attempting to hide behind a shrub. “Wren, come out. She can see you,” she sighed, tugging lightly on his wing. She nodded at him as he stepped forward. “Blue Jay, this is Wren, my boyfriend.”

“Pleasure meeting you,” Wren greeted nervously.

“We met while you were gone,” Robin continued, speaking rather quickly. “He came to see one of my inventions, and we were just talking and-” she paused, twirling the gold and emerald necklace around her neck. “And we fell in love. And I don’t care what Mother says, because she can’t rule my life.”

“Um, technically she can, because she’s, like, the queen and all.” Thrush added, stepping out from behind the hedge.

“That’s what I keep telling you!” Wren cried, grasping Robin’s talons. “She’s going to be furious if she finds out. I don’t want you to get hurt because of me.”

“I’m old enough to make my own choices.” Robin declared definitely. “And Mother can eat her tail for all I care.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Since when are you so rebellious?”

She shrugged. “Since I’ve had something to be rebellious about.” she looked over my shoulder at Thrush. “Who’s he?”

“He’s my student. The one mother assigned me.” I replied dismissively. “He’s decided to just randomly follow me around now, for whatever reason. Well, you guys have fun……..doing whatever you're doing.”

As I turned to leave, Robin said, “Wait! Promise you won’t tell Mother?”

“I swear on my life.” I replied solemnly.

“Sooo, that was weird.” Thrush said conversationally, as we walked down the path away from them.

“I can’t believe Robin would be the first of us to go behind Mother’s back.” I said. “Macaw, maybe, Dove, totally, but Robin? She’s supposed to be the sensible one.”

Thrush wrinkled his snout. “Yeaaah, you're not really all that sensible.”

“Excuse me, I can be quite sensible if I wanted to be.” I said in a haughty voice. I glanced at the sky, where the shower was still twinkling.
